Sayadaw U Janaka

Sayadaw U Janaka, also referred to as Ashin Janakabhivamsa, is a distinguished meditation master and a prominent disciple of Mahasi Sayadaw. Born on July 24, 1928, in Pyinma village, Taungdwingyi township, Myanmar, he has been a dedicated meditation teacher since 1967, significantly contributing to the dissemination of Vipassana meditation teachings.

Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Center 

Established by Sayadaw U Janaka in 1977, the Chanmyay Yeiktha Meditation Center is situated at 55A, Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, Mayangone, Yangon, Myanmar. The center offers a nurturing environment for both local and international meditators.


Features of the Center 

- Facilities: The center comprises multiple buildings, including a four-story structure designated for foreign meditators. It provides single accommodations for men and women, separate meditation halls, and modern amenities such as showers, toilets, and a washing machine. 

- Meditation Practice: The meditation approach at Chanmyay Yeiktha is rooted in Mahasi Sayadaw's Vipassana method, focusing primarily on the rising and falling of the abdomen. Emphasis is placed on cultivating continuous mindfulness throughout daily activities. 

- Daily Schedule: A well-structured daily schedule is maintained, featuring group meditation sessions, Dhamma talks, and individual consultations with meditation teachers. 

- Meals: The center offers two substantial meals each day—breakfast at 5:30 a.m. and lunch at 10:30 a.m., with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. 

- Language: Individual interviews and lectures are conducted in English, with Sayadaw U Janaka being fluent in the language.


Sayadaw U Janaka's Contributions 

Sayadaw U Janaka has played a pivotal role in promoting Vipassana meditation teachings both within Myanmar and on an international scale. He has facilitated meditation courses across various countries and continues to provide guidance and support to meditators at Chanmyay Yeiktha.
